Good Time God

Eddie Stack writes from West Clare about Lughnasa, the Irish harvest festival honoring Lugh, the ancient god of arts and crafts. Unlike the Catholic adaptation, says Eddie, “Lugh was a good time god.”

Sure thing, Eddie. I can’t recall if it was Philip Casey in Dublin or Margaret McPeake in San Francisco that mentioned your stories, but it’s always nice to meet another storyteller. We visited Cork, Kinsale, Schull, Killarney and LaHinch for six weeks in Summer 1999, and had a grand time. If you noticed on my lineage in the sidebar, my O’Neals left Belfast in 1768 for South Carolina, so we’re pretty well settled on this continent.
